As a young girl, I used to highlight words in books I was reading. Sometimes I'd highlight them because I wasn't sure of their meaning and needed a reminder to look them up, other times I would just love the way they sounded, and often I'd find myself highlighting and underlining words that made me feel. Words like amiable, unfathomable, cantankerous, ardently, exuberant, flabergasted, bewildered, and crestfallen, made their way into my conversations with friends and especially my diary. Of all the words, my favorite has always been serendipity. This idea of finding something good without looking for it, of going through what feels like a typical Wednesday but then the most incredible thing happens. Something you didn't even know you needed until suddenly it's found you. Our lives are full of twists and turns and it often feels as though we've lost our way somehow but you never know what's waiting for you just around the corner.
